The Newly Launched Xiaomi MiWiFi Router

Xiaomi launches a new smart WiFi router. A combined 2 million MiWiFi routers have shipped since the first models were launched 13 months ago.

Xiaomi smart TV and set-top box have shipped 6.77 million units combined. (The first Xiaomi set-top box was launched in April 2013 and the first Xiaomi TV in September that year.)

The company also announced today Baichuan Union (our translation), an initiative for online videos. To provide its smart device consumers an extensive range of videos, Xiaomi has partnered with more than 100 Chinese video content providers, excluding LeTV, the online video company that also produces smart TVs, set-top boxes and, more recently, smartphones. LeTV shipped more than 1.5 million smart TVs in 2014.

Xiaomi announced a US$1 billion investment plan for digital in late 2014 and has invested in Baidu-backed iQiyi, Youku-Tudou and Huace Media.


More than 200 hospitals across China have joined Alibaba’s “Hospital of the Future” program. 82 hospitals in 41 Chinese cities have launched the mobile telemedicine service provided by Alibaba.


Hunantv.com, the online video site established by Hunan Television, has raised RMB500 million (about US$80m) in Series A funding from New Alliance Capital. (via Sina Tech)

Apart from TV programs produced by Hunan Television, Hunantv.com also stream videos by other TV stations or content providers.


A wave of US-listed Chinese tech companies are going private, including Renren, 21Vianet, E-House China, CMGE, Jiayuan, Sungy Mobile and Taomee.

Chinese government is promoting domestic listings of internet companies.
